Uncovering the face in the presence of men under the pretext of studying medicine

Q 5: A medical female Muslim student says that she is prevented from entering (Part No. 17; Page No. 177) the laboratories if she is not wearing the hospital uniform, which does not cover the head, arms, and parts of the legs. Is this permissible for her until she finishes her studies?

A: It is not permissible for a Muslim woman to uncover any part of her `Awrah (parts of the body that must be covered in public), such as her face, hair, chest, legs, and suchlike in front of Ajanib (men other than a husband or permanently unmarriageable male relatives) under the pretext that she is studying medicine. It is obligatory that Muslims should create a separate education system for women, so they do not have to mix with men or be forced to uncover their `Awrah. Allah is the One sought for help. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
