Q: I am a disabled man; one of my legs has been removed and the other is afflicted with rheumatism. My eyesight is weak and my house is 750 meters from the Masjid (mosque) and to get there I would have to cross (a road) along which vehicles and tanks travel at high speed. I also suffer from dyspnea. Do you think that I am entitled to the concession to offer
Salah (prayer) at home
as my condition is as I mentioned? It is worth mentioning that I offer the Jumu`ah (Friday) Prayer in the Masjid, but with great hardship, trouble, and effort. Allah knows that I am as I say in reality. Allah is a Witness to what I am saying.
If the reality is as you mentioned, then you are excused, so pray at home and you will be granted your full reward, if Allah wills. This opinion is based on general evidence that all show the ease of Shari`ah (Islamic law). Allah (Exalted be He) says,
Allâh does not want to place you in difficulty
(Part No. 8; Page No. 41) Allah (Glorified be He) says,
So keep your duty to Allâh and fear Him as much as you can
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
When a servant of Allah is ill or on a journey, they are recorded with the equal of what they used to do when they were healthy or at home.
(Related by Al-Bukhari in his Sahih) May Allah guide us all to what pleases Him!
May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
