Fasting some days and nights as a substitute of fasting the entire month of Ramadan

Q 4: Is it permissible for someone to fast continuously day and night, for three days during the month of Ramadan instead of fasting the whole month?

(Part No. 10; Page No. 88)  A: It is not permissible to do so and none of the scholars have ever said that it is permissible to do so, as night is not a time of fasting. Anyone who does so is in violation of Islamic law, and has innovated a new legislation that was not ordained by Allah. Additionally, they will be breaking their fast during the month of Ramadan without a legal excuse. Allah (Glorified be He) made fasting the entire month of Ramadan obligatory upon every Mukallaf (person meeting the conditions to be held legally accountable for their actions). Therefore, fasting some days can not take the place of fasting the whole month.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
