Du`a' against insinuations

Q 5: Is there any authentic Du`a' (supplication) reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) regarding people who suffer from devilish whisperings, obsessions, and impatience?

A: Such people should mention Allah frequently and seek refuge with Him from Satan. Al-Bukhari, Muslim and others narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Satan comes to one of you and says, 'Who created so-and-so? 'till he says, 'Who has created your Lord?' So, when he inspires such a question, one should seek refuge with Allah and give up such thoughts. In another version narrated by Muslim: "So, when he inspires such a question, say: 'I truly believe in Allah'". Muslim also narrated on the authority of `Uthman ibn Abu Al-`As (may Allah be pleased with him) who went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, Satan confounds my prayer. He (peace be upon him) said: That is a devil called Khanzab. When you feel his illusory acts, spit thrice at your left and seek refuge with Allah from the devil thrice. `Uthman said: When I did that, Allah dispelled from me what I felt. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
